Inscribed rectangles in smooth Jordan curves, related to self-intersections of a surface in four dimensions
This program explores the rectangular peg problem, which asks whether every smooth Jordan curve in the plane contains four points forming the vertices of a rectangle. The visualization computes and displays inscribed rectangles found in user-defined or parametric curves, illustrating the topological argument that relates the problem to self-intersections of a surface in 4-dimensional space. The computation uses numerical methods to find rectangle inscriptions.
