Classical wave equation double-slit experiment, showing diffraction and interference in real time
This program numerically solves the 2D wave equation on the GPU, simulating a planar wave passing through a barrier with two narrow slits. The resulting diffraction and interference pattern forms in real time, with constructive and destructive interference creating the characteristic bright and dark fringes. Unlike the quantum Schrodinger version, this simulates a classical wave (such as water or sound) and visualizes the wave amplitude as a height field or color map.
