Cross-sectional slice through the probability density $|\psi_{n,\ell,m}|^2$ of hydrogen atom orbitals
The bound states of the hydrogen atom are described by wavefunctions ψn,ℓ,m built from spherical harmonics and Laguerre polynomials. This program takes a planar slice through the three-dimensional probability density ∣ψ∣2 and renders it as a surface in three dimensions, with height and color encoding the probability of finding the electron at each point. The quantum numbers can be adjusted to explore different orbitals.
