Archimedes' theorem that horizontal slices of a sphere and its circumscribing cylinder have equal area
Archimedes proved that the sphere and its circumscribing cylinder have the same lateral surface area, and moreover that any horizontal slab of the sphere has the same area as the corresponding slab of the cylinder. This program illustrates this theorem by displaying a sphere and cylinder side by side with matching horizontal slices, demonstrating the equal-area correspondence that underlies the Lambert cylindrical equal-area projection.
