The double pendulum consists of one pendulum attached to the end of another. Despite the simplicity of the setup, the equations of motion are nonlinear coupled second-order ODEs that exhibit chaotic behavior for most initial conditions. Small differences in starting angle lead to dramatically different trajectories, making this a canonical example of deterministic chaos in classical mechanics.
