Quantum tunneling: wave packet penetrating a classically forbidden potential barrier
This program numerically solves the time-dependent Schrodinger equation for a Gaussian wave packet incident on a rectangular potential barrier. Quantum tunneling, where a fraction of the probability amplitude penetrates a classically forbidden region, is one of the most striking predictions of quantum mechanics. The simulation shows the transmitted and reflected components of the wave function evolving in real time.
