Quantum wave packet in an elliptical billiard domain, developing self-interference patterns
This program solves the two-dimensional time-dependent Schrodinger equation for a free particle confined to an elliptical domain with Dirichlet boundary conditions. Unlike classical billiards where trajectories are sharp lines, the quantum wave packet spreads, interferes with itself upon reflection, and develops complex interference patterns. The simulation reveals how quantum dynamics departs from classical ray optics in bounded domains.
