Interactive geodesic board: drag to aim geodesics across interchangeable curved surfaces
An interactive demonstration of geodesics on a curved surface, where the user can control the starting position and angle of a family of geodesic curves by clicking or dragging on the surface. The geodesics are computed via parallel transport and rendered as metallic tubes on a wooden board with procedural wood-grain shading.
Multiple preset surface geometries are available via buttons, including Gaussian bumps, sinusoidal patterns, and wave surfaces. Each surface has different Gaussian curvature distribution, producing different patterns of geodesic convergence and divergence. The piece was designed for exhibition in NYC.
