Flat square mesh relaxed by springs alone, without charges to prevent self-intersection
A minimal test of a spring-only simulation on a square grid mesh, without the repulsive Coulomb charges used in the spring-charge variant. Springs along each edge try to maintain target edge lengths, allowing the mesh to deform freely in R3. Without the charge term to prevent collapse, the mesh may fold or self-intersect.
This provides a baseline comparison showing why the repulsive charge term is necessary for producing well-behaved embeddings of surfaces. Parameters for the spring system are adjustable via the GUI.
